Caring for Your New Hair Extensions - The Tips You Need Now

People are turning to Hair Extensions in record numbers these days. Whether you wanted a dramatically new look or you just wanted to cover a bad haircut, hair extensions are the way to go, but they can be a big commitment. Knowing how to properly care for them can give you the long lasting quality you want.

Keeping Them Clean
Jumping in the shower with your new hair extensions and grabbing the shampoo is going to be a slightly different process than you're used to. As you go through the day, your extensions will soak up oils and other things in your environment much faster than your natural hair. In order to shampoo the extensions, cover them with a clarifying shampoo made specifically for hair extensions and carefully wash them. They only require a gentle touch. Be sure you get them rinsed well, though! It will help to avoid bonds. Be sure you don't brush or comb them while they're wet, as that could lead to breakage.

Keeping Them Soft
After washing, conditioning your extensions will also make sure you are always looking your best and that your extensions last a long time. Your normal conditioner, though, won't quite work for your hair extensions. Think of your extensions as being thirstier than natural hair, since natural hair has access to oil from your scalp. Choose a product that's been designed specifically for hair extensions. After you wash them, put plenty in your wet hair. If you need a bit of intense conditioning, leave it in for two minutes, and then rinse it out.

Keeping Them Styled
When you're ready to head out for the day, you want your new hair to look amazing, so you may want to be aware of a few things as you style your extensions. First, always use a wide toothed comb to brush through them, and do not pull or yank on them to rid them of tangles. While good extensions can stand up to the heat of a blow dryer, it's a good idea to only use it as necessary.
